Because studying, as we all know, is no fun (well for most people, anyway) most of my time is spent doing a LOT of other things aside from studying AND sleeping. Which is not surprising, considering how I dislike remaining in the same position for more than 15 minutes.
Therefore I thank God for friends who constantly keep me occupied (regardless of whether I want it or not).
At home, where entertainment is limited to the idiot box or the net, our entertainment is usually impromptu: we go with the flow (or the stomach, depending on the time)--which brings to mind an episode of madness with the camera at 1a.m. on one particularly dull day, resulting in a make-believe of sorts with my housemate as the cameraman and a particular blog-writer as a wannabe model. The end result was 30 odd pictures resembling hobos and maybe 2 decent pictures, which can be seen in my Facebook.
And let us not underestimate the fun kitchens can provide, too: with proper utensils (and safety gears) , one can have endless hours of fun there. What can be so fun, anyone would ask but rest assured some immesurably enjoyable activities I have performed include debates on better cooking methods, outperforming peers in chopping veggies and inventing new dishes (most of which involves the ever-useful spaghetti, the gift of gods). By doing so, hours of fun is guranteed(read: time wasting), rapport is built (unless, say you live alone), and if fortunate, a decent dinner that is palatable and not diarrhoea-inducing. So far, no unpleasant side-effects yet as far as I am concerned when performing such activities.
Since we are on the topic of kitchen, allow me to share a certain recipe i have invented, which is good for eating with plain pasta when the allowance is on the low end:
ingredients:
Onions. Lots of them.
Garlic. Less of them compared to onions, 'cause a certain housemate dislikes it.
Soy sauce. As much as required.
Water. Also, chili paste is optional.
Method:
1. chop up onions and garlic into tiny bits. The more, the better.
2.fry them in a pan until they are aromatic and not burnt.
3. add significant amounts of soy sauce until your housemate complains of high BP.
4. add water, cover and leave for 5 minutes or so. (you may choose to add chili paste at this time as well)
5. dump sauce over spagetthi and wonder when your next allowance would come in as you savour the rich flavour of the student life.
*as a sidenote, it really tastes great so give it a try!
There seem to be an unwritten rule that Uni students, to remain cool, must go clubbing sometime or another--and thanks to a certain friend of mine who loves clubbing and another friend of mine whose birthday opens a window of opportunity of sorts, I was able to go club. Personally, I have a slight distaste for clubs, aside from it being perfectly normal to ogle and touch hot people without them noticing. But alas peer pressure (and the need for good eye-candy) made me cave in to the temptation and so I went anyway.
It was loud. Real loud. Not that I have anything against loud noise, but surely the bass is not neccesary? Anyway. We went, danced, drank (I must admit I also have a very low tolerance for alcohol--and when I'm tipsy I become quiet and emo) and well, that's about it. which makes me wonder (all the time) why would anyone want to pay to be squashed like sardines and puke all over the place--but I was fortunate to not need to pay that night :).
Needless to say the next morning's lecture was pure torture in attempt to keep the eyelids apart.
Ah.
Something I have always enjoyed (and admittedly dreamt about) was live-bands--the feeling of being able to be onstage while the world looks upon you is just surreal when you've always been a part of the crowd. And only recently I got to perform with a band during one of the campus activities--as a lead singer, no less! Too bad by the time we got our turn, most of the audiences have returned to their classes but well, at least my bandmembers and I enjoyed myself.
I would describe just how amazing my bandmates are, but that would probably bore everyone reading this so I'll pass for now. Besides, it just wouldn't do without pictures, innit?
And that ends the confessions of a slacking medstudent. The real thing starts tomorrow!
